Weekly Message #3-14

The sunshine was a wonderful surprise this weekend and the Plottels took advantage of it to put up our Christmas lights.  Can’t believe that Christmas is just one month away!

The big theme this week is Spellathon.  The prize center will be open Monday to Thursday.  I will try to pull kids between recess and lunch but depending on volume, I may need to extend that time.  Please encourage students to bring in their money asap.

If you haven’t done so, please inform us of your plans for this Friday’s pro-d day.  Teachers should let Brenden know and other staff should let Patti know.

Hopefully you have had a chance to look at the collaborative funds application.  Please be prepared to talk about this at our Staff Committee meeting on Tuesday, December 4th.

With Mel’s sudden departure, we will have an EOC in the office until the job is posted and filled.  Thank you for your patience as we do our best to be on top of everything.  As Cybil has opted to extend her leave, she will not be returning to Moberly.  We interviewed for the Gr. 5/6 position on Thursday.  Thanks to Paul for sitting in at the interview.  The successful candidate is Maria (Ma rye a)  MacMaster who is an experienced intermediate teacher coming to us from Douglas.  She will start in September.  The position will be posted again as a temporary assignment for January to June.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Spellathon Prize Center – Monday to Thursday
  2. Drug Awareness presentation for Gr. 6 and 7 in the new gym at 9:30 on Tuesday.  Dan will be using the old gym for prep from 9:30 to recess. (Thanks Dan!)
  3. Reports to home on Thursday.  Please do not send reports home early.  If someone is going away, we will mail their report to them or they can pick it up when they return.

Weekly Message #3-13

It’s almost time to move past report card fever to the holiday season stuff – can you believe it?  Jane is reading evens and Patti is reading odds.  Please let us know if you are going to be late.

I will be handing out information to your boxes this week on applying for district collaboration funds.  Please look over the info carefully and let Patti know if you are interested in applying.

I am pleased to let you know that Jennifer Andersen has approved an additional .5 SSSA position to help with break coverage!  We are working on finding someone who wants to work 10 – 2 each day.  This will provide some extra support for the classes who are giving up their SSSA to cover other people’s breaks.

I met with a reporter from the Vancouver Sun last week about their Adopt-a-school fund.  I am hoping they will provide us some funding for areas of need at Moberly.  I will keep you informed!  In the meantime, two classes are going to the Aquarium in early December thanks to this program.  Congrats to Paul R. and Alison / Maggie whose names were drawn for the trip.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. David Thompson Articulation breakfast on Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m.  Patti will be attending for Moberly.
  2. Salad day on Tuesday for those who have signed up.
  3. Teachers(classroom and resource ) of autistic children will be involved with the Popard meetings this week.  Thanks to Jen and Pat Sykes (district consultant) for organizing this additional support.
  4. PAC meeting on Tuesday evening
  5. Area meeting on Wednesday morning – Jane and Patti away.  Paul will be in charge.
  6. Patti will be at a meeting all day at the VSB on Friday.
  7. Performance of Clever Cherries for K-7 at 1:30 on Friday.  The new gym will be closed from 10:30 for the elaborate set up needed.

Weekly Message #3-12

We look forward to celebrating Diwali together on Tuesday!  Thanks to Narinder, Harjinder and Mike for their assistance in putting together our celebration.  At our assembly, we will enjoy some dancing by a group of Grade 7 girls.  Our indian luncheon promises to be delicious!.  I had an interesting adventure at the Guru Bazaar on Thursday after school where I was able to purchase a reasonably priced “pyjami suit” to wear on Tuesday.  If you were ever thinking of buying a suit or picking up some fabric, now is the time, as the store is closing and moving to Surrey.

I know that many of you have spent part of your long weekend working on reports but hopefully you also found time to enjoy the beautiful sunshine on Friday and Saturday.  The cold snap in the air tells us that winter will soon be here.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Diwali assembly led by Div. 1 at 2:00 on Tuesday in the gym
  2. Patti will be attending meetings at the VSB all day on Wednesday.  Resource reports are due that day so don’t worry about handing them in on Thursday instead!
  3. PAC meeting next Tuesday night (the 20th) at 7:00 pm in case a teacher would like to attend.

Enjoy a second four day week!

Weekly Message #3-11

Thank you to everyone who entered the blog contest last week.  It’s great to know that so many of you are reading it!  The draw winners were: Kelly and Gurpreet (SWIS worker).

It’s hard to believe that November is already here and we have to face the dreaded REPORT CARDS!  Please feel free to have me check over any parts of your template if you would like feedback.

A big thanks to Jane who is doing the planning for this Thursday’s Remembrance Day assembly.  It looks like it will be a beautiful assembly with lots of music.  Please take the time to remind your students of the importance of a silent respectful atmosphere on that day.

For those of you on timesheets (CUPE): Because of the upcoming ETO day (Friday, Nov. 9/12) and STAT day (Monday, Nov. 12/12), Payroll has a very short period of time to process the timesheets for the week ending November 10, 2012.  As a result we are requesting that all timesheets are submitted early so that they are received in Payroll by Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 4:00 pm.

I will not be in the building on Tuesday or Wednesday but will be able to access my email if you questions on those days.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Supervision Aide meeting after recess on Monday
  2. Jennifer Wong here to meet with Grade 6/7 teachers at recess on Tuesday re: Vancouver Giants Gang prevention presentation evaluation.
  3. Remembrance Day Assembly at 2:00 on Thursday.

Have a great 4 day week everyone!
