Weekly Message #6-29

imgres-2Had a lazy weekend this week – a nice break to just spend time at home with family.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch in Steveston at the Blue Canoe with our friends today.  It was warm enough to sit out on the deck and be comfortable.  Can Summer be far away?

A big welcome to Alexis Tsougrianis (also known as Mr T.) who has joined us in the library for the rest of the school year.  We are very pleased to have Alexis who has library experience and course work.  Thank you everyone for helping him to find his way.

Lots of meetings this week – but otherwise pretty quiet.  It might be the calm before the storm.  Our annual staffing meeting is next week (May 5th) and we will need to have conversations about assignments for next year.  If you have any more information you’d like to share about your preferred assignment, please let me know.

Also, a couple of people have let me know they would be interested in moving rooms.  If you are thinking about that, please make sure I know as all room changes need to be organized through me.  Thanks.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Karl will be away on Tuesday.
  2. Patti at Community Link meeting at J.O. Tuesday morning until 10:00 a.m.(Paul is in charge until I get there)
  3. Anyone interested in giving input on performers to book for next year, please come to the library at noon on Tuesday.
  4. Grade 7 Grad planning meeting at lunch on Wednesday in Room 103
  5. Aboriginal Fair at J.O. on Thursday morning for Divs. 1-6.
  6. Patti will be away on Friday.

Have a great week everyone.

Weekly Message #6-27

IMG_0261What a jam packed weekend for us with the a retirement party after school on Friday, the parade yesterday and band practice followed by dinner with our son, Jamie, tonight.  No wonder the weekend goes so fast.  Hope you all had time for fun and rest this weekend.

IMG_0257Thanks again to the planning team (Marilyn, Maggie, Scott and Brenden) for their great work putting together a very interactive and informative day on Friday.  Every time we do this, I feel as though I understand that much more about the new curriculum.

Hopefully, tomorrow’s activities will be as engaging and worthwhile.  I have collated all of our data for reading and writing for your consideration as we decide how to move forward with our school plan.  Thank you in advance for your time and energy tomorrow.  In addition, we will work on setting up next year’s calendar and review / approve our school fees.

Friday will be a Student Council theme day called “Random Day”.  Posters will be going up this week to give details on what that could look like.  Please promote with your students.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. School Planning Day on Monday
  2. PAC meeting on Tuesday night where we will consider the VSB Strategic Plan.  Teachers are welcome to attend.
  3. Performance by Cadence on Wednesday afternoon.  Study guide was sent to you last week.
  4. Gr 7’s to David Thompson on Wednesday afternoon.
  5. Assembly at 1:00 on Friday afternoon to celebrate Earth Day. (I’ve lost track of whose turn it is so will check in with the lucky teacher tomorrow).  We look forward to performances by the choir and Maggie’s K class.
  6. Random Day on Friday!

Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Message #6-26

imagesAnother busy weekend passes by and I don’t know where the time went!  This week is jam packed with activities and field trips culminating with our Curriculum Implementation Day on Friday.  Your teacher team has put together a great day for you with opportunities to learn more about the curriculum and spend some time planning.

It’s also a busy week in our school community with the celebration of Vaisakhi on Wednesday.  The Vancouver parade will be on Saturday so let’s hope for good weather.

I’ve scheduled a staff meeting for Monday at lunch as we need to prepare our application for LIF (Learning Improvement Fund).  Last year we got .3 resource staffing.  I think we asked for .8!  I will update everyone on this year’s preliminary staffing and will be guided by your input on what we should apply for this year.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Class photo day on Monday – don’t forget to wear something you want to be photographed in!
  2. Staff meeting re: LIF at lunch on Monday.
  3. Whole school field trip to UBC -Chan Centre on Tuesday.  Karl will be firming up numbers for adults on Monday.
  4. SBT with Deanne Yee on Wednesday.
  5. Supervision Aide meeting at 11:00 on Thursday
  6. Patti at a meeting off site on Thursday afternoon.
  7. Curriculum Implementation Day on Friday.

Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Message #6-25

IMG_0906It sounds like it was a good weekend to sell chocolates at the Superstore.  From what I understand, they ran out on Saturday and had to have more delivered for Sunday!  I popped in to show my support at 3:30 on Sunday afternoon to find that they had already left for the day!  I hope that means the chocolates were all sold!   Congratulations to the PAC organizers, volunteers and Grade 7 students who took part.  They will be back at the Superstore next weekend too.

Hopefully you all had a chance to the warm, sunny weather this weekend.  The pace is picking up for year end at school with deadlines, events and field trips filling our calendars.  For you to consider: we need volunteers to serve on this year’s Sports’ Day committee (June 10th) and we need to decide if we are going to do Moberly Idol this year.

We will be having our “School Planning Day” later this month (April 18th) and it will look a little different this year.  We are not required to develop a whole new plan for next year but we do need to submit a summary of this year’s planning.  Given that, your Resource teacher will be working with you to gather the data that we need to support our school goals.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.  We will also look at calendar dates for next year on the 18th as they are due to the district office that week.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Pro D planning meeting at the VSB on Monday morning for Patti, Brenden and Maggie.
  2. Performance by Aboriginal Hoop Dance – Teddy Anderson on Monday afternoon.  All are welcome.  A study guide was emailed to teachers last week.
  3. Supervision Aide meeting on Tuesday from 11:00 – 11:30.
  4. Staff Committee at lunch on Tuesday.  Please have your agenda items on the list by noon on Monday so that agendas can be distributed on Monday afternoon.
  5. Patti and Karl will be at the area meeting on Wednesday morning.  Paul is in charge.
  6. SBT with Kathy Grimm on Thursday at 11:00.  Location to TBA as there is an articulation meeting at the same time.  Agendas will be in your box early this week. (SBT with Deanne will be on April 13th)

Have a great week everyone!
