Weekly Message #6-38

The last weekly message of the school year!  It was a quiet weekend at the Plottel home -thankfully.  So nice to just rest and get a few things done.  As we head in to the final week for students we can look forward to nothing but sunshine!

The Grade 7 grad went as smooth as silk thanks to the many people who worked to make it happen.  Thanks to the parent volunteers, students and most of all the Grade 7 teachers.  Maria’s class did a wonderful job of filling both gyms with stars and we are very grateful to Harj for booking the DJ and finding/booking the caterer.

Thanks also to Karl for booking and organizing the Aquavan.  I heard lots of positive comments from the students about their experience in the program.

On a sad note, when I went to get the awards from the front hall for this week’s assembly, I discovered that the Vijay Misri award was missing.  Please keep your eyes open for it – but I suspect it was stolen. 😦 We will replace it but if you have any memory of who has won the award in the past, please let me know.

I am looking forward to Moberly Idol on Tuesday and if the talent at the Volunteer Tea was indicative of what we will see this year, we are in for a treat!  Also, I can hardly wait to see the staff dance group!

A reminder to everyone that if students are leaving before the last day, you should not give them their report cards.  Report cards will not be released until Wednesday.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Health & Safety meeting on Monday morning at 8:15 in the staffroom.
  2. Moberly Idol Tuesday morning 9:00 – until it’s over!
  3. Awards Assembly Wednesday morning 9:00 – 10:30
  4. Staff Breakfast Thursday morning at 8:00 – make sure you check out Barb’s instructions emailed to us on Friday.

Have a great last week everyone!

Weekly Message #6-37

We spent Father’s Day in Chilliwack at my youngest sister’s home – she put on a delicious brunch for all of us.  The highlight was visiting with her twelve 6 week old labradoodle puppies – so adorable and obviously very popular as they have already sold 9 of them!  Hoping all of you had a great Father’s Day.

We have completed our interviews and have 3 successful candidates.  I don’t have the name of our new PE prep person so Karl will let you know on Monday afterschool. Rick Pachler is our new Gr. 1/2 teacher and Pamela Lee (who subbed for Bernadette when she was off) is our new Resource Teacher.

We have three more grades to cast this week and then that task will be done until we review classes in September.  Thank you for all your efforts and the careful thought you give to this process.

We will have a staff meeting on Monday right after school and all staff members should make every effort to attend.  I will be updating you on the VSB long range facility plan – focusing on the Proposed List of Possible School Closures.  Just about every school in Vancouver will be affected in some way should the closures go forward.

Our big event this week is Grade 7 grad.  I know that not everyone has chosen to pay the cost to attend our luncheon on Friday.  If you are not there, you will get a chance to share in the celebration when the valedictorian speeches are read at our awards ceremony next week.  Also, we will continue with the Grade 7 run on the last day of school so we can all bid them good luck and farewell.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Class casting this week:
  • Monday – Gr. 4 to 5
  • Tuesday – Gr. 5 to 6
  • Thursday – Gr. 6 to 7

2. Staff meeting re school closures Monday after school in the staffroom

3. Health & Safety meeting Friday morning at 8:15 in the staffroom

Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Message #6-36

imgres-3Congratulations to the Sports Day committee – the day went off without a hitch.  Well organized and I think all the kids got their food in a timely and accurate manner.  The weather wasn’t perfect but we got through it!

Let the casting begin!  Tomorrow is the first day of class casting and I realize that I haven’t even chatted with people regarding the special needs placements.  Will get on that first thing Monday morning.  Please remember that although you want to think ahead of time of where your students would be best placed, you also need to be flexible as we work to balance classes.  Class casting is a challenging task and I thank you in advance for your hard work on this.

Schedule for this week:

  • Monday       K to 1
  • Tuesday       1 to 2
  • Thursday     2 to 3
  • Friday           3 to 4

Our interview committees for the Resource and Gr. 1/2 are going back to the drawing board on Monday as all three of our selected candidates have accepted positions elsewhere.

SSAs are reminded that we are moving to Schedule #9 tomorrow.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Karl is away Monday and Tuesday.
  2. Transition meetings for two new K’s at Moberly on Monday afternoon.   Patti & a Resource teacher to attend.
  3. Class casting as above
  4. Patti & Karl at an area meeting on Wednesday morning.  Paul is in charge
  5. Patti at a meeting at the VSB on Wednesday afternoon.
  6. Resource reports due Wednesday.
  7. Patti at a meeting at the VSB on Friday morning until 10ish -back in time for casting 🙂

Three weeks to go!

Weekly Message #6-35

Apologies for the late post – it’s been a busy weekend for us.  Dinner out all three nights and a band practice at our place this afternoon so I haven’t had a minute until now (9:45 p.m.!) It’s rather overwhelming when the pace of the June weekends matches the pace of June School life.  So off we go with this week’s events.

This week we will be shortlisting applicants for each of our three openings.  Interview questions will be developed and interview times set over the next 7-10 days.  We will keep you in the loop as the process follows through.

We are looking forward to thanking our volunteers on Wednesday morning.  Our thanks to the committee who have planned a lovely morning for our guests.  All staff members are invited to join the group for recess to enjoy some snacks and fellowship with the parents / volunteers.

It definitely starts to feel like the end of the year when Sports Day rolls around.  With no options for other dates, we will be counting on a decent day this Friday.  Otherwise we’ll have to move inside! 😦  Thanks to Dan and the committee for putting together a great plan.  Pizza and beverages provided for everyone at lunch as well as other goodies from your Social Committee.  Also there are enough fudgsicles at the snack station for the kids and staff.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Maria, Manpreet and Patti at Advanced Health & Safety training on Monday morning.  Karl is in charge.
  2. Supervision Aides meeting on Tuesday at 11:00 in the staffroom
  3. Staff committee on Tuesday.  Agenda items to the clipboard in the staffroom by noon on Monday please.
  4. Volunteer Tea on Wednesday – 9:45 – 11:00
  5. Sports Day on Friday!

Have a great weekend everyone!
