Weekly Message #7-23

It feels like last week was a whirlwind of activity.  A wonderful week full of great things for staff and students!  This week looks to be busy but less jam packed as we finish up our report cards.

Thank you to Brenden for organizing a very powerful pro-d experience on Friday.  It was obviously very thought provoking in the moment but also provided much food for thought in the long run.  I appreciate the honesty and emotion that was expressed and feel thankful that you will continue to support each other as we consider the responsibility we have to acknowledge and respect the cultural perspectives of the indigenous people of Canada.

dsc00299On that note, I have included a picture of the medicine bags made by Sousana’s students with Kim’s help!  They are really beautiful and the kids are so proud of their work.  On behalf of all of us, I would like to congratulate Sousana who has accepted a secondment to work in the Employee Services department at the VSB from Spring Break to the end of the year.  Sousana will be helping with the recruitment and hiring of new teachers – a much needed outcome of the new/restored staffing requirements.

It’s Hot Chocolate week so thanks in advance for releasing Student Council reps as needed and for the disruptions that food delivery will cause to your classrooms.  We hope it will go smoothly!

Make up preps from Friday will be on Wednesday afternoon – Karl will provide the details.  It’s the penultimate week before Spring Break!  Karl and I are planning our usual movie presentation next Friday (the 10th) from 9:30 – 11:30ish.  Hopefully, this gift of time will allow you to leave for the break with a “spring” in your step!

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. School Based Team with SLP.  Agendas will be distributed on Monday.  We have space on the agenda if anyone wants to slide in a PRIS form on Monday morning.
  2. Grade 2/3 Reading Group meeting at lunch on Wednesday in the library.
  3. Staff Committee meeting on Thursday at noon in the staffroom.  Please hand in agenda items by noon on Wednesday.
  4. SSA meeting in the library at 8:15 on Friday.

Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Message #7-22

imgres-1Big funding announcement from the Ministry Of Education this weekend!  Can you say “almost election time”?  We will have to wait and see what the Vancouver share will be and what directives we will be given on spending.  Here is the link to the announcement: Ministry Funding Announcement Feb 2017

It’s very busy at Moberly this week including our Family Fun Fair and Cake Walk on Thursday.  Thank you to the teachers/ staff who have stepped forward to help with this undertaking.  It is a lot of work for our small and dedicated PAC group.  They are trying so hard to get us money to buy much needed resources for classrooms.

Report Cards are due tomorrow – Karl is reading odd divisions and I am reading evens.  Please let us know if you will be late with your reports. Thank you in advance for proofreading your reports prior to submission.  It really helps us get them back to you more quickly.

If you can, please make a last minute push for students to donate items for the raffle baskets.  We have received a few things but could certainly use more.  Also, reminders and encouragement to participate in the cake decorating contest would be much appreciated.

Weekly Message #7-21

img_0630We had a wonderful “staycation” this weekend.  We finally made it out to the Tsawwassen Mills mall, went shopping on 4th Avenue and downtown, gambled (lots) and ate out at some wonderful restaurants.  I definitely recommend the Tramonto restaurant at the River Rock if you want a fancy dinner.  The food was excellent.  Mostly it was great to just relax and do whatever we wanted.  A nice bonus was to be given free tickets to a Frankie Valli tribute concert (Oh What a Night) at the River Rock Show Lounge on Sunday night.  The music was terrific.  Today David’s band is playing at the Richmond Children’s festival at Minoru.  He and his bandmates are very excited about this performance opportunity!  I will be heading over there soon to catch the first set.

It’s a busy week at Moberly with lots to jam in to four days.  Hopefully the snow will all be melted away and we can get back to business as usual.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. School based team on Tuesday morning at 11:00 in Room 103.  Agendas were distributed last week.
  2. Patti at the VSB for an afternoon meeting on Tuesday.
  3. Patti at the area meeting on Wednesday morning.  Karl is staying behind to “steer the ship”!  Patti also out of the building on Wednesday afternoon with the PAC reps to prepare for the Family Fun Fair.
  4. Make up preps for Monday will be on Wednesday afternoon.  Karl will share the details.
  5. PAC Hot lunch this Friday.  Concession will be open that day at recess.

Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Message #7-20

img_0356And winter is back with a vengeance!  The forecast is for more snow until Wednesday.  Sounds horrific but what can we do?  I am feeling quite a bit better today and hope to be back tomorrow.  My apologies for the unfortunate timing of this absence with our new staffing to organize.  I look forward to working with Dan to put together some workable schedules this week.  Huge thanks to Jane for stepping in for me – I really appreciate it.

This is a busy and short week for me so please speak with me on Monday or Tuesday if you have any pressing needs.  I am at the VSB all day Wednesday and on vacation Thursday and Friday.

Last week’s movie day was a big hit with the parents and students who enjoyed the “Trolls” movie and ate up lots of snacks from the concession.  I know that the PAC is hoping to do some more events like this one with the goal of funding some of our more expensive requests on the wish list.  We couldn’t have carried on without the support of Tim who handled all the audio visual needs.  You are a life saver, Tim.

EVENTS THIS WEEK:

  1. Supervision Aide meeting on Tuesday at 11:00
  2. Staff Committee meeting on Tuesday at lunch.  Please have your agenda items to the clipboard in the staffroom by Monday at noon.
  3. Patti & Karl at the area meeting on Wednesday morning.  Jane will be in charge.

Have a great week everyone!
